Financial Technology and Investment Management: Transforming Investment Decisions in India’s Digital Economy

Author: Dr. (CA) Nikhar Goyal

Financial Technology (FinTech) has emerged as one of the most significant innovations in the global financial services industry, fundamentally transforming the way financial products and services are developed, delivered, and consumed. The integration of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Robo-Advisory, and Digital Payment Systems has revolutionized investment management by enhancing efficiency, transparency, accuracy, and accessibility. The present study aims to examine the role of Financial Technology in transforming investment management practices in the Indian context. It analyses the impact of emerging digital technologies on portfolio management, investment decision-making, risk assessment, wealth management, and financial advisory services. The study also evaluates the regulatory framework established by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to promote innovation while ensuring investor protection, financial stability, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance. Furthermore, the paper discusses the opportunities created by fintech, including improved investment accessibility, operational efficiency, personalized financial services, and cost reduction, while also highlighting key challenges such as cybersecurity threats, data privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, digital fraud, technological dependence, and the digital divide. The study is descriptive and analytical in nature and is based entirely on secondary data collected from books, research journals, RBI and SEBI reports, Government of India publications, industry reports, and other authentic academic sources. The findings indicate that Financial Technology has enhanced the efficiency and inclusiveness of investment management by facilitating data-driven investment decisions, expanding retail investor participation, and improving customer experience. The study concludes that FinTech has become a strategic driver of India's digital economy and is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of investment management and long-term economic development.
